My day didn't go as "programmed" so I could not write this post until now. How was your day? Did you notice that today is the day of the year 256 ( or 2^8)?

If you like programming you should be quite familiar with this number but did you know that today is the day of the programmer?

This day is officially recognized in Russia, and probably by a bunch of international geeks ;-) Enjoy!

Python father steps down

Guido van Rossum, the father of Python AKA Benevolent Dictator For Life or BDFL, just announced that he will not be involved anymore in the development and coordination of this popular programming language. Guido wrote yesterday (12 July 2018): I would like to remove myself entirely from the decision process. I'll still be there for a while as an ordinary core dev, and I'll still be available to mentor people -- possibly more available.

Excellent article by Alex Singleton. Especially like the fact he recognizes that in the 80's, during Geography's Quantitative Revolution, this is exactly what Geographers did. They just forgot about it, pampered by easy-to-use GIS GUI's!
