OpenStreetMap

This blog post describes a new web interface to analyze OpenStreetMap data visually. More functionality might be added in the future, but the ability to search by region or HOT project ID is already a big step forward. 

This article (and the comments) discusses the issues of OpenStreetMap being one of the global geospatial data providers, and the license barriers to more widespread adoption. The whole argument rests on the never explicitly explained assumption that OSM would profit from being adopted by businesses in the first place. Still, many relevant issues are raised.
