Keywords:

OSM and Terrain of the region with the Ushba Mountain

Description:

We are planning to produce a map of the Ushba Mountain in Georgian. It is one of the most notable peaks of the Caucasus Mountains next to the border of Russia. The schedule is to use OpenStreetMap and its data for the map. In some parts the data density look very good in other parts is look very sparse. Therefore, we have to fill these gaps to produce the map. It is important to have to have recent information about POIs for tourism and hiking. Another task is to validate and collect information about the name of local objects in the local and English language.

The purpose of your thesis is to produce a guideline based on OpenStreetMap for collecting and validating POIs. You should consider the data model, the information form the community Wiki, select important POIs for a high mountain map and the community guidelines for organized mapping with OpentStreetMap. This results in the need for a comprehensive introduction to OpenStreetMap. The community Wiki will help you as well as local chapters and some practice. In addition, you should also work with the data collecting software tools of OpenStreetMap to get a feeling how the final workflow can look. Finally we want to you use your work for the fieldwork in the mountains in which you are invited to practiced.
