Conducting Eye Tracking Study for the Uncertainty Visualizations

Eye-tracking heatmap

Objective:

The objective of this research is to conduct a user test of the different approaches for the uncertainty visualization.
Mobile eye-tracking

Description:

Based on traditional usability testing we can get lots of information from the user feedback, but there are some constrains that don't let us understand how much time a person spends on a map, what the user reads and where the user stops his\her eye view. The eye tracking user analysis adds another dimension. We can understand how the user perceives information from a map or web page and what has to be improved for the better its perception.
The study should evaluate different types of uncertainty representation as it is always difficult to illustrate ambiguity of the data. In this research you will answer the questions about possible complications that researchers face when they deal with uncertainty.

In this Master Thesis, you will learn how to conduct the user test based on the eye tracker. You will establish your user group and apply scientific methodology. The eye tracker is available at the Chair of Cartography.
