How maps have been used: Towards a typology of map functions

Objective:

Maps have been crucial for many developments of human societies and economies. However, a systematic analysis of the underpinning functions of maps in this respect is missing.

Description:

Maps have been invented from human mankind for good reasons. But what are those reasons and in which way has the production of maps been a benefit?
In this research it is anticipated to analyse a selected set of maps, in order to framework a typology of aggregated functionalities that maps offer.
